Claricent Consulting Services was incorporated in 2016. Our core business is to assist the public sector, non-governmental organisations and the private sector to conceive and deliver solutions that can help meet development objectives with special emphasis on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) development, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) development, Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs) development, Cooperative Banking Institutions (CBIs) and development of sustainable co-operatives.


We understand that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs), NGOs, Cooperative Banking Institutions (CBIs) and co-operatives face similar issues, which mainly stem from a lack of skills. We develop solutions that are informed by strategies targeted at turning ailing institutions into viable ones. Our structured approach to development consulting work that we conduct is always preceded by a detailed and extensive diagnostic, that seek to understand the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Cooperative Banking Institutions (CBIs) or cooperative condition in comparison to acceptable standards.
Studies have shown that most development consulting does not pay attention to strong areas, whereas our approach commends this. If weaknesses are identified, a comprehensive action plan is put in place to address them.

Mr Mutyavaviri

Mr Mutyavaviri is the founder and Managing Director of Claricent Consulting Services (Pvt) Ltd. He is currently completing his PhD in Economics where he is researching on the Efficiency and Profitability of Cooperative Financial Institutions (CFIs) in South Africa. Upon completion, the research seeks to establish learning points for the South African Cooperative Financial Institution sector and recommend informed policy decisions to the Government of South Africa. Timothy holds a Master of Philosophy degree in Development Finance (MdevF) from the University of Stellenbosch Business School, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Zimbabwe and an Honour’s degree in Finance and Banking (HBS) from the University of Zimbabwe and an Executive Certificate in Treasury Management. Timothy attended various short courses including but not limited to leadership development, strategic management, risk management, project management, coaching, and motivation and entrepreneurship development.
Timothy is a well experienced Cooperative Banking Capacity Building Practitioner with over twelve years experience in the following areas: development and conducting of various training programmes for board of directors, staff, management and general members; mentorship of the staff, management and board of directors; provision of technical assistance in areas of strategy, risk management, corporate governance, solvency management, profitability management and liquidity management; assisting organised groups in setting up CFIs; operationalising newly registered CFIs; development of CFI policies, business plans, savings and loan products, financial forecasts and risk management frameworks; conducting capacity assessments of the CFIs, development of training materials/manuals and developing the capacity building plans.
Timothy worked at the Cooperative Banks Development Agency (CBDA) from 2010 to 2020 and some of his achievements include the following: participating in the development of the first performance standards of the CFIs; Implementation of the manual accounting system for the CFIs to ensure that they comply with regulatory returns; Implementation of the member education programme using the study circle methodology; participated in the development of the Cooperative Bank in a Box a tool to improve the compliance and financial management of the CFIs; participated in the team that was developing the National Cooperative Banking strategy; developed the performance monitoring tool, audit preparation tool for the CFIs and skills gap analysis tool. Timothy received best performing employee awards for three years and in 2014 he received an award for being the best Mentor of the year from the Banking Sector Education and Training Authority (BANKSETA) and the Co-operative Banks Development Agency (CBDA).
Timothy worked for Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF) from 2009 to 2010 where he acquired skills in managing funds for social housing, student accommodation fund, rental housing fund and emerging entrepreneur empowerment property fund. Timothy also has a lot of experience in managing donor funded research projects that he acquired at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) donor funded projection department where he worked as a Projects Finance Controller from 2004 to 2008.
In the business consulting space, Timothy has a lot of experience in the following areas: assessment of company operations; development of business plans, conducting strategic planning sessions, conducting company due diligence; managing projects; business coaching, strategy implementation; strategy review; development of organisational policies; development and implementation of business continuity plans and development and implementation of performance management systems
Dr Syden Mishi

Dr Mishi holds a Doctorate degree of Commerce in Economics, with over 12 years’ experience in capacity building: developing training material and facilitating workshops in areas of financial literacy, business strategy, entrepreneurship modules to rural communities and shop floor workers in South Africa. He has also developed and facilitated workshops for co-operative financial institutions’ practitioners since 2016 . In addition, Syden has been in the academic field since 2012, giving him solid experience in conducting research and teaching. Syden is a recipient of various competitive research funding like National Research Foundation and PSPPD II. He brings to the team great experience in development finance, NGO sector , financial markets, monitoring & evaluation (specialising on impact assessments) among other aspects. Further, Syden has been trained to be a trainer in Local Economic Development (LED) issues under CENLED [University of Johannesburg].
